Ryan Broad

Ryan is the MD of our Senior Band and leader of our Beginner and Training Bands.

I was born in Preston, Lancashire and began playing the cornet at the age of 13 under the guidance of John Doyle and Paul Duffy. I joined the Leyland Band in 2011 where I hold the flugelhorn seat.

I hold a Master’s degree in performance and a first class honours degree in Music from the University of Salford, where I specialised in conducting with Dr Howard Evans, Dr Brett Baker and Dr Tom Daveron and performance with Mark Wilkinson, Richard Marshall and Neil Yates.

In August 2019, I accepted an offer to become Musical Director of the Lostock Hall Memorial Band with whom I had helped to qualify for the 3rd section national finals.

I joined Stockport Schools’ Brass Band as MD for the beginner band in 2021 and was then also accepted the position as MD of the senior band in 2022.

I currently works as a freelance musician and tutor, playing trumpet for the Manchester function bands and theatre productions and teaching for Stockport Music Service.
